Why would the Male attack female?

Post by tooktook »

I have just the two together in an aviary and they have been together since they where chicks and have got along till now which is 3 years. The female is very timid now hides in the nesting box. He was dancing for her but now it seems like he hates her just in the last 2 days. He's biting her quite a lot. I'm guessing separate them. But will the male eventually get over it. Any advice?

If he is an aggressive male, then he will need a similarly aggressive female. He's most likely frustrated that she won't stand for him. He's nipping her to get a reaction out of her. If she's too timid though, they will most likely never breed compatibly. :)
I am owned by my birds...and I wouldn't have it any other way :D
