Alyce,

It depends if the Lavender is male or female,
Lavender is made up of 2 mutations: violet blue and cinnamon
a normal violet would be better to pair the violet cobalt to, if you want more violet cobalts and possibly double factor violet cobalts.

lavender; if female is lavender then visually you will get the same as a violet the only thing to note is that males will be split cinnamon (which can be a downfall) some don't want split cinnamon birds.
a male lavender would also give you visual lavender as could do lavender cobalt ; in hens only. and will also give you 50% of males split cinnamon.

if cinnamon is not a sought after mutation in your country then you're better off with normal violet.

it all depends what you are wanting to achieve.

Hi,
I am wanting to have all different shades of purple. I currently have a cobalt cinnamon and violet. Would I be best to put a violet cobalt with another violet cobalt??
Will they produce all violet cobalts??
Thank you xx

Hi,

Yes you can, just keep in mind that about 1 in 4 you will get mauve (grey looking bird) its a df cobalt, not much to look at as it seems grey but valuable for breeding.
Will they produce all violet cobalts??
No.
you can get any combination of the 2 mutations including df violet no cobalt or mauves no violet, even a rare blue 1 in 50

If you breed a: df violet mauve bird from this pair, that bird even paired to a blue will give you 100% violet cobalts.

I also have a couple of pairs paired to get mauve violets, i'm also hoping for a mauve violet cinnamon from a pair ...
