Puffed rice?

Puffed rice?
Heyo,
I'm always looking out for healthy, non sticky, treats for training. I'm trying to avoid nuts and seeds, as Nele eats a lot of treats in a 10 minute training session!
I just found puffed organic brown rice at the shop. The only ingredient is rice. It's a bit like eating styrofoam, but Nele loves them so far. They are big enough that I can get 4 or 5 tricks to a puff.
Does anyone have any opinions on the healthiness factor?
Regards,
Claire

Re: Puffed rice?
I'm betting the "whole graininess" has been blown away by the puffing process and nothing left but the carbs. Won't have the fat issue associated with nuts and seeds, though.

My crew likes rice cakes...same concept. I break them up into pieces. Health wise, not a whole lot of benefit, but it's not bad for them either. A lot less fattening than seeds or nuts
I am owned by my birds...and I wouldn't have it any other way

Thanks for the input! I doubt there is a truly healthy treat, hopefully between oat groats, rice puffs, pellets and a few seeds we will have a not too unhealthy compromise.
Now the big question is whether his birdiness will actually like them for more than one day!

My feeling as far as treats go is everything in moderation

His Birdiness no longer likes rice puffs, he only liked them for 2 days. Now he takes them and spits them out lol
I think he agrees with you, Melissa, except for one point; everything in moderation except for sunflower seeds.
He is obsessed with celery today so I'll try it instead.

Maybe his birdiness would like a menu

Great idea! I can't believe I haven't made one already.Skyes_crew wrote:Maybe his birdiness would like a menu
It's amazing how such a greedy bird can be so fussy! In a week or 2 rice puffs will be his favourite treat again, and he won't even look at celery.
Re: Puffed rice?
I wonder if a menu actually could be possible. A group of images shown to the bird, then give him the one that seems to get his attention the most. Food for thought.
