What to do about mucky eggs?

Post by missycjx »

My pair of indian ringnecks are breeding. Their last lot of eggs were fertile and the embryo's were growing but then died in their early stages of development. I think the problem is that the eggs were dirty and slightly sticky on the outside. I was wondering if, when I see that they are dirty I should take them and clean them off using proper egg wash? The problem is that I realize that getting eggs damp can affect the humidity and cause problems that way. So I'm not sure how to combat the problem of mucky eggs. The other option I thought of is to replace them with dummy eggs and put them in the incubator , then put them under the female when they have hatched? some advice would be most appreciated as I desperately want these chicks and so does my ringneck hen.

Hi,
Thank you for your reply. I will post some photos for you.
They are not in an aviary they are in a large cage as the male is a tame and talking pet. They absolutely adore each other and so we made a large nest box with specific measurements for ringnecks and attached it to the cage. She was thrilled with it and began laying almost straight away. She kept the inside immaculate but some how the eggs got dirty.
