Does anyone else have a sleep-talking ringneck?

Post by Redzone »

Hi guys, we have noticed a funny little behaviour in Nele, he seems to like talking in his sleep every now & then! Has anyone else had their little friend do this? It's dead set one of the funniest things i've ever seen! I have a couple of video's of him doing it, he sounds like a guinea pig..

I know what you mean! My bird, Rani does this sometimes... He will tell himself over and over that he's a pretty boy then he'll laugh and say tickle tickle. He usually says the same things over and over, almost as if to help him get to sleep! I haven't seen him do it for a little while now but yeah... my bird does too!

This is an older video of him doing it, when he was about 4 months old :)

I have another newer one to upload aswell :)

well, cant upload a video as i look too spamy for a new user!

so you will just have to search "cute baby indian ringneck sleeptalking" on youtube..

The reason you can't upload yet is because you need to be a member for at least 5 days and make 10 posts.... saves spammers signing up and posting links to their sites :)

I saw the vid - actually he is dreaming. I can translate:

"Apple.....apple.....apple.....apple.............................apple......"

And when he wakes up, it is:

"I had a good dream. Did you bring me apple?"

:D

Very cute.

Hi Redzone,

I think the sound at the background of television or radio i dont know is causing Nele to make those sounds. It is no problem though as even my birds make that sound while sleeping, when i am playing a song on the computer or Television.

Subodh

P.S. just to confirm the theory please try to switch of all other sounds and see if Nele still makes those noises.

Thanks Missk, I can't believe we missed that! Poor birdy, I'll go buy him apples right away. Have you considered a career in parrot dream interpretation, your a natural, and i imagine you'd be the only one in your field ... Could be lucrative

Hmm well the other video i have of him doing it is indeed while the stereo was on, though i'm sure he's done it with no background noise before aswell.. This one above was during a Richard Attenborough doco

If he does it while there is no background noise i'll be sure to get the camera out!

My IRN sprocket constantly chatters in his sleep. It's quite funny some of the noises he makes.
Mostly meowing and barking. Sometimes a weird new whistle.
I love it

Hi Redzone,

What a precious baby you have! I was wondering, you see at the end, how baby arches his back and starts calling out softly? What /is/ that? my Beau does that /all/ the time when I am with him and I'm worried that it means he wants to be left alone?

Just the other day Beau started this "sleep talking" and he is only 9 weeks old! I started tearing up it was /so, so/ cute.

Hi Tobiloh, that head bobbing/ squeaky noise behaviour you see at the end of the video is what they do as babies, to let older members of the flock know not to pick on them as they are young. He stopped doing it at around 6 to 7 months of age :)

I think it was closer to 5 months that he stopped begging.
Nele is a bit special. Maybe that's why he's a genius at trick training

Prodigy is a much nicer nickname then the usual one that redzone calls him which, in polite form, is 'oi stop that you little .....'

Haha I hope not!

Considering the bird spends 3 or so days week at work with him. He's a mechanic so I'm surprised Nele doesn't say bad words already! I know i do whenever i work on my car!

That's different. You know he's secretly trained the bird to go get things inside the engine he can't reach. We may have to call the bird labour law division!

You've done it again Missk, another phenomenon explained in one topic. Now I know why Dave comes home in a good mood whenever Nele goes to work with him! Please don't tell PETA, I like having a happy boyfriend ;p

Mine did, and I had to look up why and what, your video is so cute. :) That's what bobby was doing 'head tucked in' and making funny noises. Haven't seen him do it since. But he's started to get more vocal.

Probably grinding his beak. Try watching him, if he doesn't mind, it's quite interesting. It seems to be the only time that ringnecks drool too
