Hello everyone!
I am new to ring necks! I owned a little budgie when i was younger and my mom had a quaker, so i know about birds and stuff. But it has been a little while since i've owned one. I am getting my new baby ringneck in May, i get to meet him in 2 weeks! the babies are only 3 weeks old right now. Anyway, i wanted to maybe get some advice for a first time ringneck owner. I am getting a nice large cage for him, but i wasn't sure how many toys or perches would be good to put in it for a young IRN. I also dont know much about feeding them, i read the page on what they are able to eat and what not, but how do you guys usually go about it...do you leave pellots in there all day, or just feed them several times a day with fresh foods? Any tips on training a ten week old baby? I had more questions but they seemed to have escaped my mind at the moment i will post later too im sure. Thank you for any answers you can give me!!!
THis forum is awesome im so glad i found it!

Start of with more toys than you think you need. This way you can switch out toys in his cage every month to give him something new to play with. When you put toys and perches in his cage, he should still have room to move around and stretch- preferably room to flap his wings too if the cage is large enough and if the bird will be spending much time in the cage. Here's what Hane's cage generally looks like http://www.indianringneck.com/forum/vie ... f=5&t=5022
Hane likes to flap around a bit and spends a lot of time in his cage most days depending on the schedule of my husband and I have. He uses every inch of his cage and I like to switch it up. I really like these http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/p ... catid=5995 so I can move his food dishes around too. Nowadays only his water dish stays in place.
Try to arrange the cage so that perches above will not put the bird in a position to poo on dishes/toys/perches below otherwise you'll have extra work to do while cleaning (and it's a pain in the neck to be sure).
For food I offer pellets all day and feed veggies in the morning especially. Either freshly cut up or my sweet potato mash which Hane prefers warmed up. Throughout the day I might offer some seeds (sometimes sprinkled on the mash) and whatever I might be cutting up to cook. XD I like to switch it up. Variety is important. I also like to put seeds, dried fruit, or Lafeber's Nutriberries in cracks/crevices of toys for Hane to find and eat.

THank you for your advice! It was very helpful, i finally got to meet my baby this saturday! im so excited to get him (or her) in may!
Re: Getting a ringneck in May!
What cage did you end up choosing? Have your cage and toys set up and ready to go before your baby gets home. She will probably be a little disoriented at first so it's good for her to have a place to go. Also you can cover the back and one side of the cage to make it more secure for her at first. Then just lift one side at a time until the cover is gone over a week or two. I have found that with new birds it makes them feel safer because they can 'hide' if something scared them.

I was able to get a A@E 24"X22"x62" play top, I plan to save up to get a larger cage in the future. I will definitely cover the back of the cage that sounds like a great idea! The day she gets home, should i hold her for awhile when we arrive at my house or should i put her directly in her cage? She is being hand fed and raised so she is used to people.
If you wanna see my baby i put him on youtube, you can search Mr green indian ringneck
