Hi There,

They are not fully matured yet. The female and the male both should be atleast 2 years plus for breeding and still i would call them in the age of adolescence. According to me both should be above three years to attain a healthy clutch. So be patient and dont rush to things please.

Just for another point of view... I'd be reluctant to separate them because I think it may cause one or both of them too much distress. You can certainly try it, but I wouldn't do it for too long a period if it is distressing them too much... To some extent, I think you will need to be attentive to and adapt to their needs.

Hey Ellie,
I have seen ur posts and they are just wonderful it seems you have experience. Recently I am doing my best tame 2 ring necks at a time which isn't easy if you want to know about them just check the post in tame...I have used lots of methods some worked some didn't . As MissK mentioned a Gud point I have to tame them before they breed. Well now we can say that there is a tiny little bit of improvement.any idea Ellie

Hi Pablo

I've just gone through your other threads on the forum:
- http://www.indianringneck.com/forum/vie ... =2&t=16604
- http://www.indianringneck.com/forum/vie ... =2&t=14529

I hadn't checked through them (as MissK had done) prior to my previous response.

From what I've read, I think that while you haven't meant to, you've been sending your birds lots of mixed messages which I think is why you haven't made the progress that you would have liked. If you want tame birds, they need you to be consistent, gentle, patient, kind and sensitive to what they need (at least that's how I try to work with my two).

What are you doing with them on a daily basis at the moment? In one post you wrote, "they dont like eating in front of me and i havent touched them for ayear now". By "haven't touched them" do you mean, you haven't touched them with your hands for a year, or do you mean you haven't tried to tame them for a year?

If you aren't doing much with them on a daily basis right now, then we could look at starting really small, depending on how tame they are. For example, eat one meal/snack in front of them each day and/or read a book or do your homework beside their cage. Always leave a treat in their cage when you come by. The first step will be to associate good things with you.

Taming birds can be painstakingly slow and you need to look for the smallest progress and celebrate that. You need to work hard to discipline yourself to not overstep their boundaries and push them too far. You'll know by their behaviour is you've done that. If you do, that's okay (it happens to everyone some times), but it will set you back a little bit.

It is possible that separating them may make them easier to tame, however, when I first got Charlie, I'd try to take him into another room to train him separately from Janey, he would constantly just fret because he was away from her, so I just began working with them together. It is challenging but I couldn't do anything with him when he was by himself.

Good luck to you!

Hi again,
Thank you for helping me I posted two articles the one about breeding and this one well what I meant by haven't touch them for almost a year is that I didn't pet handfed them and didn't tame for almost a year. When I got jazz he was bit scared he learned how to step up I use to hand feed him sometimes then when I got she was really quite not scared at all when I've put jizzy in jazzes cage he didn't allow to eat so I handfeeded her she was just like a toddler :D but then just jazz fell in love with her I assume they started playing with each other and they didn't pay any attention to me at all.i have one thing that I really don't like when i let them out of the cage they either go on the top of the cage or their tree play stand which is their room soo as soon as I enter their room they jump and try to escape from me I feel terrible I feel like I'm worse than Godzilla should I lock them in the cage?
From now on ill start doing the steps u suggested
Thx Ellie

Hi Pablo

If you stopped interacting with them for a year, then you probably have some very confused ringnecks on your hands. Your birds must have no idea what you want from them. I'm sure mine would be completely wild if I didn't interact with them for a year. If you want tame birds, you need to start slow, go at their pace, and work with them every day.

Birds don't choose to come and live with us, we make them do it. So I think it is our responsibility to make their life with us as good as we possibly can.

Best wishes with your new taming regime!

Ellie.

P.S. I also agree that it's probably not a good idea to breed your birds until you happy with their level of tameness.
