Chi the baby Indian Ringneck

Post by ChiChi »

Hi guys!

Chi is my baby Indian Ringneck :) He/she has only been home for two weeks and I know that baby birds need a lot of time and patience!

Chi isn't very fond of his/her new mummy, when I first brought the darling home Chi sat on my hand for a while but the very next day seemed to withdraw itself.

Now two weeks have passed and Chi doesn't seem to be warming up at all, in fact my darling seems to be going in the opposite direction. Doesn't want to be touched by me, handled, backs off even when I come up to the cage! I'm a little disheartened by this all

Does anyone have any stories to give me hope and any tips on how to gain Chi's trust?

It's only been two weeks and that's nothing at all I know!
I can't wait for my darling to trust me.

Thanks for taking the time out to reply MissK! I really appreciate it :)

I'm following your tips and taking to slow with the darling. I clipped his wings for bonding purposes and he seems to sit on me fine!

This morning when I went to give him a good morning pat he hissed and tried to nip me multiple times. I hope this is bluffing and that he doesn't actually hate me

hey Chi and Miss K.

My little one does let me pet him but it does depend on what mood he is in. He never usually likes it in the early morning maybe because he wants to eat and has lots of energy to race around playing with his toys. He will make the noise you talk about if I interrupt him while he's doing anything (eating or chewing toys). I normally get to pet him around afternoon tea time or morning tea time. 2pm 11am ish, after he's tired himself out haha. I'd probably be able to do it after dinner too but I've read and been told that birds are meant to sleep when the sun goes down and wake up when it comes up so doesn't give much time post dinner! He HATES it when anyone touches his tail. He likes you to go in the direction of the feathers on his back but doesn't mind if you go the other way on his head and neck. think it feels like a head massage haha I normally pop him on my chest and curl my hand around his body without being to tight or heavy as important that he can expand his rib cage to breath if he starts to run away or push up against my hand I know he's not in the mood but if he stays there then I start to pet his back then move to his neck and head. I think he likes the warmth so I leave my hand curled over his back and use the other hand on his head. I didn't really teach him just stumbled upon it.

Forgot to add this pic which kinda shows how I put my fingers over his back but normally up a bit higher I think I was at the end of petting his back in this picture.

Good luck and I hope that you find what works for you and ChiChi
