There is no real way to tell how old an IRN is but if you post some nice close up pics some of us can have a guess.
They can usually breed around two years old. It's possible to breed at 1 year old but it's rare and the eggs arent usually fully fertile
A breeding box is essential for breeding and they must be kept together away from any other birds. Look into what types you can get as the default boxes sometimes mean the hen drops onto the eggs and breaks them. Make sure the box has steps inside and a gradual slope down if possible
Sometimes the droppings are liquid depending on what the birds eat. This on occasion shouldnt be a problem, especially when eating fresh foods. Fresh foods are essential during breeding season.
You should keep the male and female in seperate cages untill breeding season. You should introduce the male to the breeding area first then the female, as the females tend to be agressive and she might not like you introducing a male in her territory and kill him.
You should check with any local breeders if you know any as to when the breeding season is in your area. Putting them together just before breeding season and leaving them together until they raise the babies, then you should take the babies out after they are say a few months old.
You can leave the male and female caged together all year round. But only them and not the babies or any other birds. Most breeders split their cages into breeding areas and leave the pairs there all year round, but if you have any mixed birds you need to seperate them before breeding season.
