I'm a new member as I have a new member in my life

Post by SunithaNaik »

Hi All,

I adopted a ringneck 2 days ago and she is fabulous. My peer who gave it to me got that parrot in a very bad condition, she has lost a finger :-/. He could not take care of it after few months n he asked me if I want her. As I love animals, and do not have a pet as of now, i readily agreed and got her home. She is friendly but taking her time to adopt to the new home. I let her free when I'm at home. Only when I goto work she is in the cage.

This is my first time with a bird and I'm learning a lot of things about my Chittu. Oh yeah! Previous guy called her Chittu n requested not to change her name. And I find it cute too. I don't know how old she is, but she was with my peer for 3-4 months. Is there a way I can find out how old she might be?

Chittu is very friendly and loves to eat Custard apple, apple, carrots, green chillies n beans :) . Have not started to feed her Seeds. I will start in a day or two as I hv to go shop for the same.

As I don't know anything about IRN, could someone tell me, is it normal if the poop is like worms, long n green/brown in color with water? poop is solid but she poops with some water as well. Today I noticed her poop has white discharge in her poop. Is this normal?

I'm trying to find a good avian veterinarian in my city and as soon as I find one will take her for a general check up.

Your suggestions would be of great help. Thank you :D

Hi SunithaNaik,

Welcome to IRN.com :) I am also new to indian ringnecks, having only rescued one 3 weeks ago. I'm sure you will find a wealth of information here in the forums, as I have done over the last few weeks. Good luck with your new FID, and keep us updated on your progress. They are wonderful companions, and my husband and I get much joy from watching our Skittle's antics

Ya. They are wonderful. My lil birdie 'chittu' is friendly. She hardly eats. I mean, she eats less n litters more. Is that normal or she dislikes the food? Or she is just a messy kiddo?
