Teaching my Parrot - Any tips?

Post by OllyGreen »

Hey everyone!

I had my parrot a couple of days ok and he is only 12 weeks old. He is very tame, he is always out of his cage and I am always holding him and stroking him on his back. I sit there for ages talking to him and repeating his name and saying hello all the time because I am going to try and teach him to talk.

Any anyone got any good tips on how to train my parrot to talk? Also, how long did it take everyone to train their parrot to talk?

I love him how he is, but it would be a bonus if he could say a few words.

I think he almost said hello yesterday but I'm not sure, I won't give up, I will continue to talk to him and spend all my time with him :)

Sounds similar to my bird Gene!

I'm dying for him to start talking to me, I wish there was a specific age so i didn't have to wait and guess haha.

Does your bird ever chirp and sound like he's experimenting sounds? I think it usually happens when they aren't aware you're watching him/her, I've noticed my bird doing this so hopefully it's a sign he will start chattin' it up soon :)

Guess we just have to keep chatting away to our birds till they chat back.

guess you are going thru my phase, i was patiently talking to mittu for 9 months until he replied back , he was whistling names from 4th month onwards but now he talks but very very mumbled voice - we have to deduce what he says - now he has hello, how are you and namastey(indian hello) , smrithi - my daughters name in his dictionary.. just started talking new words
you will love it for sure , they are wonderful birds
