Doesn't pin eyes

Post by miss lacey loo »

Hi
May seem a little stupid to ask this.. But my male lutino Irn has never pinned his eyes??!!
He is just over 10 months old and his pupils are generally the same size all the time!
I have a violet whos eyespin when he kisses me, when he plays with the dogs or cat, when he sees food.. Pretty much at everything, but my lutino has never pinned once!! Even when he bites.
I guess I want to know if anyone has experienced this and if it may be a sign for some sort of eye condition?
Thanks :)

Is he generally a calm bird? Do his pupils change when you hold an object at a distance and then bring it closer? Has he had a vet check?

Hi Ellie! Thanks for your input!! :-)
His pupils move slightly.. But even when he talks they don't pin. He was fairly calm, but in the last couple of months has been REALLY BITEY!! ( my poor mutilated fingers) I figured he was still going through a bit of bluffing so I ignored it and kept handling him.. Even as I bring food up to him his eyes barely change size.
He hasnt had a vet check in the last 6 months and I've had him since he was 10 weeks old.
Compared to my little violet fella who pins when I wink at him, it just seems odd!

I don't know anything about birdie vision but it would stand to reason that if your bird is having vision problems it could make him bitey because he may not see when you are trying to interact with him. It could scare him. Is he any different when you talk to him?

No, even if I talk as I come up to him he still will lash out. He walks around with the dogs and cat and around the house ok, I guess he might have some sort of diminished sight that makes him scare.
He is a bugger too, he is so defensive of his cage I have to rotate him to an outside one on nice days, just so he isn't so territorial!! Lol
I might call my avian vet and see what he thinks.. I was Hoping someone had seen this before in their feathered baby!!
Or if it's an ino thing.. Everyone tells me lutino/albino birds are mental.. Lol
