cage covers

Hello,

I am about to get a baby Ringneck. I had one for 14 years and unfortunately she recently passed away. We are being given a baby and are in the process of replacing toys, etc. I was wondering what you recommend as the best cage cover. I was thinking of something like a lightweight comfortor. Is that too heavy? We used a blanket most of the time with the previous one, but sometimes, if she could still hear us in the room, she could get rather obnoxious at times. We would put additional blankets on to try to encourage her to settle down. Any thoughts?

I use something quite thin but it is black and so possibly blocks out more light. It can get quite hot here which is why I tend to use something thin. If you live in a colder area something thinner might be better. If your bird can't settle, you could consider having it sleep in another location of the house that is darker and quieter. I know some people have sleeping cages for their birds but if your cage isn't too big, you can also just move the cage you've got.

Sanjay has a huge cage, so we bought a king size black sheet, it's cotton as our flat is centrally heated in winter, it's easy to wash and lets air circulate.

Our cage is quite big too. When I first moved out of home my mum made me some couch covers from cheap material. Later she adapted them for me into cage overs. They're essentially two big pieces of fabric. I use both during winter and one during summer.

Thank you, for the replies. I guess I will stick with the blanket I was using before, or a similar one. It gets quite warm here, but we keep the house pretty cool. The cage is big enough it is hard to move around. I was worried that something heavier than a blanket could make it hard to breath and was wondering what others thought.
