Fixation with bright lights

Post by NeedleNedRyerson »

Hello,
I have noticed that our youngish (around 8/10 months??) ringneck Zuul is quite transfixed by bright lights. He stares up at the ceiling lights, the heat lamp in the bathroom and even the sun. He is like a dear in the headlights, frozen, zoned out to anything else (mummy giving him a tickle). It hasn't bothered me too much but I am starting to get concerned about his sight, since staring directly into the sun is not something I would do. Is this normal behavior and should I be concerned?

I would probably ask a Vet that one, sounds like it could lead to some nasty complications if it is bad for their sight.

My bird is obsessed (like, absolutely fixated) on any remote controls. No matter how hard i try and hide them she's too smart and finds them! I'd let her play with them if she didn't have to rip all the buttons off!

Vet sounds like a good idea, just to be sure.

I understand the button fixation. We live without a television but Zuul has already removed the down arrow key on the keyboard. It's like she knows how much I use it?!?

Our vet told us that birds see light differently to us. For example, fluorescent lights probably look like a strobe to your bird.... At the time I thought it was saying we shouldn't turn fluoro lights on around them but he said that birds do adapt and it doesn't bother them... so definitely worth an avian vet visit.

Ellie.
