can irn change their masters?

Post by chuckles »

i recently bought a irn from some indian guy , he told me he is 6 month old though later on i found out that irn with black ring are over 2 yr old , which my bird already have . anyway when i was at his store he would put his hand in the cage then the bird would jump on it , then the bird jumped to the guy shirt and grabbed to it while the guy stroke his head , when i got the irn back home the bird would get away from me when he is standing on the stick inside of the cage also the next day when he is jumping all over the cage i would put in my hand and he would jump on it then jump somewhere else , though if he is sitting still he wouldnt jump into my hand . two days later i let him out but it wasn't so good cause he would run away from me but after like 10 minutes i would get the cage near him and he would go back into the cage . he do stand on my hand while he is eating a piece of apple, and he wont let me stroke him from behind of his neck cuz everytime i try to he growl , my question is can irn change their masters? or he will be ever attached to that indian guy , also he doesn't make any sound and this is the fourth day i got him , is he very old?

Birds do bond to people. Trust between you and your bird builds up over time. If your bird was tame before it will generally make the process proceed more quickly but will take time. Keep working with food rewards and just keep working with your bird bit by bit. Don't expect too much too soon. Just keep spending time with your bird and being kind to it. Set up his cage environment so he can watch you go about your daily work without being the centre of attention. You've got to remember also that he was possibly quite happy where he was being with his fav person... and when he got taken to a new environment his whole world changed and it's going to take him some time to adjust.

You can expect it to take a couple of months for your bird to settle in. The lack of noise isn't something to worry about.

If your bird is getting his foot caught in something though, you should do what you can to make the cage safe so that this won't happen again.
