Hello everyone. I bought a green IRN yesterday and he is very beautful. However, I have a few problems, I have not let him out the cage yet because I wanted him to get used to the family first and not make any sudden attacks on us (his wings are NOT clipped), I wanted to know if that is okay in doing so and will not make him furious as he is locked in a cage all day.
Also, his health is excellent but he is not really eating or drinking anything.
When ever I go near the cage or put my hand near the cage he goes to the other side of the cage or desperately biting the cage as if to escape.
I know I can't tame him in one day or build a bond but I just want help in how to do so.
NOTE: he was not hand fed.
Thank You.

To begin with, it sounds like you are doing the right thing. A lot of breeders suggest allowing your new birdy to get used to his surroundings and new cage environment before taking him out for socialization. Give him a few days to explore the cage first. And then try opening the cage (making there are no windows or doors to your home left open, since he is not clipped) and allowing him to come out. Keep the environment quiet and peaceful, allow him to adjust. Everything is new and it will take time. Your bird may be eating when you are not in the room, so check his food dish for empty shells or hulls, or chewed on bits. Try putting a chair near his cage at mealtimes, and have your meal in close proximity. Then eventually you can try offering him bits thru the cage bars. Eating is a huge social behavior in birds, and getting him to take bits from your hand is a big step. If he doesn't take it directly from your hand, put it in his food dish for him to explore when he's ready. Post updates! I would love to hear more about your bird's progress.

Thank You for your reply. He has started eating now in front of me, there was actually a toy in there close to the food tray and I removed it earlier on and within a few minutes he began to eat so that's a relief. I will allow him to adjust for a few more days and try out a few things you suggested and post updates

Hello once again. Right, so I thought I post an update.
I got his wings clipped today, I know some people are against it but I had to for his own safety and to tame him. Once I got back I left the cage open and let him come out in his own time, after about 20 minutes he came out but was really scared and tried hiding from me. I let him be for a while but talking to him from a distance, I was holding certain fruit and veg so he can be hand fed but he was too scared. He would walk around a for a bit when I wasn't moving but every time I did he would go the other direction.
After about two hours I wanted him to go back in the cage because I had to leave him unsupervised but he was refusing to so I had to wear gloves and do it. He did not try to bite me at all which was surprising.
I have been approaching the cage now and again and he just sits there with one leg on the side of the cage which I believe is progress because before he was flying to the back of it.
Any more advice will be greatly appreciated and sorry for the long post.
