trouble with handfeeding

Post by skysong »

Hi everyone,

I realise this is typically a ringneck forum but i'm hoping someine can still help me. Two days ago I bought 2 plumheads that I was told were 4 weeks old, although to me they do look a little older. Since I first got them they have been extremely hard to feed. They do not beg for food and I generally have to force the spoon into their mouhth to feed them and half of this seems to run right out again. During their last feeding I even used a syringe to see if this would help and while it was less messy they still didn't respond. Does anyone have any ideas as to what might be the problem or something that I could do to encourage eating as I am really worried they are not getting enough.

I am not new to handraising birds, I currently am feeding 2 ringnecks (which is how I got onto this forum), 2 moustache, 2 peachfaces and a lovebird. I have never had a problem with any of these, however we breed all these ourselves and the plumheads as I mentioned before were bought.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Unfortunately plumheads are a naturally hard bird to handfeed. Try a syringe.
