When i first received my hand reared alex he was as tame as anything and i could pick him up and hold him but lately if you go near him he will lunge to bite me? and doesnt like being stroked or anything i cant go near him????? i am very confused as this is my first hand reared bird . My alex is around 17 weeks old... is this a stage or a personality trait i am have to going to get used to?? Pleaseee help me!! i beg you. i miss holding and playing with my alex.

Sounds like bluffing. This can happen any time after weaning. Hane, my IRN went through two bluffing stages.

From what I read, Alexandrines are similar to IRNs in many ways.

This is just a stage that you need to push through. Don't let your bird call your bluff, don't give in to him. He needs to still have human contact.

May I ask how hard he is biting? I may not be able to reply again but this will give a basis for others to respond.

He doesnt get the chance to catch on with his beak. But when he lunges he looks like he could do a considerable amount of damage. Sometimes he just opens his beak and probes around looking as if to bite you. Other times he lunges and they look like more serious bites. We jump back though and never let him bite us. (the fam that is)
