Who has gotten their bird around 1 yr old?
I was looking for some advise from someone who acquired their bird when it was abt a yr old. How long did it take for ur bird to become comfortable with u? Was it alone or with other birds? Were u able to train it? Thank so much for ur time and knowledge!

Hi i got my green male at just over a year (out an aviary as well!!) and it took me about 6 - 8 months to get him to stop biting and step up, he has picked up talking from my other male, and mimics everything he says, he can still be a bit nippy and jumpy, but he steps up and gives kisses when he feels like!
Very much in love with my one female, and loves being around everyone in general!
My advice with taming, take it slow, but makes sure to spend at least 10 - 20 min with your new bird both morning and evenings. i had to use gloves in the beginning but that often freaks some birds out more than anything.
Also get ur baby used to you offering food through the cage, go slowly, and offer a treat, and hold it there until your baby comes to see....
all i can think of ask away if you want to know more!

[quote="SCB -SA"]Hi i got my green male at just over a year.
THANK YOU! I was beginning to worry that they would always be distant from us being most ppl got theirs as babies. They already are taking food from hands, btwn the bars and are very vocal. They also are learning clicker training( coming sometimes when called and going "home" when play time is over). We just can't touch them yet. Some ppl say handle them even if they act like they don't like it....some say wait until they come to u....we're confused on how to handle it.Being u said it takes mths I feel a little at ease...thank u! Ill have many more questions later on. Thx u again for ur time and experience.

Hi Shirley
I got my silver male at about a year old (he's about 3 now).
I got him for company for my female after her male flew off so I never intentionally trained him but he does take treats from my hand, although no touching is allowed and he's by far the one of my four IRN's that I trust not to bite even if my hand is less than an inch away.
It took him a few months to start taking treats and making noises that resemble words but nothing you can clearly hear.
