Post by Ainon »

Are there any australian people on this board?

I wonder what kind of birds that are common as pets in australia?
Also if there is any big austrailian bird forum or homepage?

(I also have some questions about bringing parrots in and out of australia if someone has any knowledge of that)

I'm mabye moving across the earth in a year, most likely to queensland :P

I am an Aussie.
As far as pets are concerned, there is a lot of variety. The most popular would be Cockatiels, Green Cheek Conures, Alexandrine's, and to a lesser extent, Ringnecks.

This is a link to an Aussie bird forum http://smileysbirds.proboards26.com/index.cgi there are a few around but this is probably the best one.

I am sorry to disappoint you but Australia has some very strict import/export laws and you won't be able to bring your pet into the country

I'm aussie, wuwu.. leaving melbourne tonight. i miss my bappies :(
Was a good trip tho.

OK as far as pets go I have cockatiels, princess parrots, sun Conures and Indian Ringnecks.

AS far as imports go it's illegal to import BUT if you are moving here to live you can bring a pet. Cant link you from here but you can do a search for import customs.

I really hope I will be abel to bring my amazon, I'm hoping I wont have to leave him with someone here in Sweden when I move. I'm going to move to australia and study medicine, I will stay for atleast 6 years but if I like it and will be abel to I may stay forever.
I think I will have to contact the embassy to hear what the regulations are...

How common is amazons?
That's my favourite type of bird though *mia*:s (here on the forum) bird Kalle really got my heart beating when I saw him when we met at a privat gathering for birdlovers we have a number of times per year here in the north of Sweden. I really would like to get a ringneck in the future, the are so amazingly beautiful!

Jermey, I looked at yo ur website and your birds are amazing, epeciallly those baby lovebirds, so sweet

Welcome to the family Elina and Apple :D .

I am in Australia Also.

Here there are many parrots you can buy as pets. But the most common are rosella's, lorikeets, Cockatoo's (major mitchells and sulphur crested) and my favorite the red tailed black cockatoo, galahs, Alexandrines, conures, Indian Ringnecks, eclectus, african greys, Karikis, cockatiels and you can find Mccaws.

Anyway I hope the following site can help you more about importing a pet bird into Australia.

http://www.deh.gov.au/biodiversity/publ ... birds.html

and/or

http://www.deh.gov.au/biodiversity/publ ... -birds.pdf

Amazons are not very common here but i have seen evidence of people with them, for example the following link shows someone in Australia with one, so I know they must be here just from that. But easy to find a breeder and buy one? I really don't think so. Unless someone else here (at this site) knows of one:-

http://zachary.avianavenue.com/WorldAmazons4.html

And a site below, of breeders in Sydney that sell among other birds, blue fronted amazon's, not sure how reputable they are, but there is a contact number etc. So it seems with a bit of hunting you could find them.

Well thank you Bryan .. I should have mentioned budgies .. purely because I am actually on the hunt for one of those ones with the Big heads and faces, not sure what breed that is, the really naughty looking ones. It already has a name, Brinly, I just have to find it yet (probably a her I would think).

Cheers !

You're probably thinking of the English budgies? They're huge compared to the standard pet store budgie. Local bird shows/expos are sure to have them for sale. Cages and cages even at our smaller shows locally. ^^

Ozzie ere.....with a question

Post by shonofear »

Ozzie here also..... :o

I have had my new ring neck since Christmas and he/she is going ok. Me and my brother both got one and they are brother/sister, they are also in the same cage.

Do you think to be able to train them properly, will they need to be seprated into seperate cages?

They seem to rely on each other alot, and also get jealous/have fights too.

The problem with my one is that he some how got a little seed stuck in his little nose hole. I don't know how bad this may be and wondering what I should do?

Ok, thanx in advance,

bye

I have two sibiling in the same cage, and they've been together since day one. So long as you handle them both everyday you shouldn't have trouble training them, or having them depend on you. Make sure they're clipped at least to begin with to help with the bonding also.

That's all I have for you, good luck!

Don't worry about the seed. My bird had one stuck there too when he was little. They get their little nails and dig them out when it annoys them. Just like a 5 year old kid.

I too have brother and sister IRNs living together in an aviary. Just like human sibs, they fight and carry on and play with each other all day long.
