New IRN

Post by clsutt29 »

Hi I'm Chris and just got my first Indian Ring Neck about a week ago. I was told she is female and around a year old. The lady that had her didn't have very much time to spend with her so she is skittish and a little nippy. She said she has never been able to feed her treats by hand. I had her eating apple from my hand through the bars the first day. I can now feed treats inside cage but it takes a very long time for her to get comfortable enough to take it. I can feed and pet her with a glove on with out any problems. She isn't scared of the glove but is my bare hand. She will come out of the cage on her own and with the glove. She likes to get on my shoulder but bites at my ear. She doesn't put much effort into it but it worries me a bit that she will. Just wondering if she will get better or if this will be the norm.

Don't worry she'll get better.

Just spend a min of 15min of proper quality time your IRN. I tend to sit there for 15min with each of our IRN's and just talk to them even they don't understand a word I say

When I first had Tango he was hesitant to be with me but I'd just sit next to his cage and watch tv.

As he got used to me, he would then sit on my hand and i'd give him a small stick to chew on whilst watching tv.

Then it just progressed from there with giving treats, basic tricks, patting etc...

It does take sometime so patience is a virtue :)
