3 days ago, i bought 2 IRN's, a male and female. i bought them from the side of the road because I live in Nigeria and there are no pet stores. my IRN's are very untame because they were probably cought from the wild and weren't tamed. also, i don't know if they clipped their wings poorly, clipped their wings and grew new feathers of just don' t know how to fly but they can jump very far but cant fly. i always try to tame them but they always bite me.
If they are wild birds than they might be majorly peeved...
I'd start with a thick glove if you're trying to handle them. The more time you spend around them the more they'll get use to you, don't try and push it with them.
Show them you're their friend.
Getting a guide on cutting their wings properly might help with the wing problem, an yes it could be that they've just cut back to much of their feathers and will take a long time to grow back, and may take a couple of small trims to get them to grow back properly.
I've also heard it's best to trim both wings back so the bird don't spiral out when running.
I myself haven't had to much experience with birds, but when I got my IRN Silver almost Albino about 9mths back I started researching all I could on them, and not just IRN's in general.
Currently I'm waiting to see if anyone happens to come accross my bird, the mesh over my security grill, he had bitten thru once before and decided to sit in the garden bed (where the cat sleeps), an being during the day my mother was the only one home, I take care of my mother, now the little sod walked back and forth amongst the rose bush making mum run after him, 2nd time he had a lot more of his wings regrown and went into the kitchen and made it outside, went around to the Red-Rump in the avery outside, wiated for me to come home and take him inside.
But this time think something may have scared him and he's flown and got lost.
I just let mine sit on his cage and get use to me walking bcak and forth, slowly bringing him closer, and him getting closer, to the point that before he left, well I could go anyhwere with out him following me.
