Tail feathers and gaps between bars???

Post by Tan tan »

Hi,
I have a blue indian ring neck who has just got his black ring but his tail feathers seem to snap off. The tail feathers seem to grow in, get long and then snap off. Any thoughts??
Also what size should the gap between bars on his cage be?
Thanks,
Tanya and Nudie

They will lose their tail feathers during a hard molt. Cage bars should be 1/2" to an inch no bigger.

Cage size could be a factor, or perch and toy placement. If the cage is too small or the tail is hitting the bars, they could be damaged. My sister's IRN would bite off the ends of any tail feathers that got bent.

I've been called 'birdbrained' before, but somehow I don't think this is what they meant. say:hah-nay
