Hi there, Im in need of some good advise from the experts ! My little Grey IRN is going through a phase where he wont stop removing his tail feathers. I know they normally do this to get rid of their first set but he doesnt seem to want to stop. I quite frequently see blood on his tail when he bumps it.
Is this a Phase ? or is he not well ? They get fed good food, are never confined to cages and have a large play area in a well trafficed area. ( by they i mean there is a girl with him too who does chase him around and harass him )
He gets put out side all the time and hangs with Wild Birds, cos these birds possibly be giving him mites or something because on top of the tail feather pulling, he has a few head heathers that seem scraggly. it is moving into summer here tho and i thought this could be molting, but it seem to be getting worse.
Should i take him to the vet?
He should be stressed because he gets looked after very well + lots of attention.
I can post a pic if needed.

Maybe the female is doing that feather pulling and there is no chance to heal. Also maybe hanging out with wild birds is no good. I know they carry bugs that could make him itchy. I would take him to the vet but also try separating them to see if maybe it is the female that is biting the feathers off since you said she is chasing him.
