Is it becuz he's a baby

Post by jen5239 »

We've had Remmi for a few weeks now. He's still pretty flight. When we approach his cage, whether he's inside or on top on the play gym, he acts like he's scared. He'll try to get as far away from you as possible. I have to "chase" him from side to side on the play gym or inside the cage when I get him to step up he only stays on for a while and then jumps for the bars. Is this normal? And then when I do have him on my hand and am wanting to hold him he wants to leave. It's so cute, he kind of hunkers down and jumps up and tries to fly. Which he gets a little flight before he's on the ground. Then the chase is on. But he'll step right up but he does the same thing again, and again, and again. Is this simply becuz he's a baby?? And he makes next to NO noise at all. When he does make a noise I get so excited. Why is this? Could it be becuz of Byndi? Any help with these ? would be greatly appreciated! I just love this little guy so much! He's got the sweetest eyes and so far the sweetest temperatment. I love him!

Thanks,
Jen

Young ringnecks are often more interested in playing and exploring than hanging out with us boring ol apes ;)

Try holding a spray of millet when you hold him, you might be able to get more of his attention that way. Also, look for a time of day when he seems to want to interact. When Buddy was little he didnt care to hang out with us humans other than the mornings... but in the morning he'd just snuggle right up and hang out happily. Now that he's older he needs his time whenever he can get it, but even now he hangs out for a while then plays for a while then comes back to hang out more.

I doubt Byndi is making much impact on him at all to be honest. Mazzie has been threatening Buddy his entire life, and on the couple of occasions when we did try to introduce them she was nasty to him. He doesnt mind her a bit, will tease her when he's feeling brave, and will yell right back at her if she gets to grumping at him through the cage bars. If your really worried about it though, just move him farther from Byndi :)

Hey Jen. So it sounds like things are going pretty well then? Remmi seems to be taking well to you. Has he bitten you yet? Don't hold much over his tiny head right now 'cause you still have bluffing to get through. You'll know when he has hit that stage... Hopefully he'll go through that well...we hope

How is Byndi by the way?

Hey Dani,
I'm not looking forward to the bluffing stage. What age do they tend to go thru that? He's a sweetie. He just doesn't want to hang with me. He will step up and he will let me pet him. But he'd much rather be on his cage or the play stand doing his own thing. Which bums me out. But I'll take it.

Byndi is Byndi. He's doing pretty good. Still doesn't want anything to do with me or anything else. But he's still gorgeous and I still love him. Thanks for asking.

So how's Prinny? Ready for the holidays?

Take care,
Jen

Hey there! Prinny is doing good...she sulked a bit when I had to leave town for a few days but she got over it quick :D I am glad to hear that Byndi is doing well.

They normally go through bluffing around just after weaning all the way to a few months. You'll know...believe me

We're getting ready for the holidays...busy, busy busy lol. you?
