Harness suggestions?

Post by yoshi »

Hello!

I've read a lot on here about other IRN owners using harnesses. SO, I've come to the conclusion that I want one. :) But I was wondering if anyone can give me a good suggestion of one to buy? Maybe reply with a link of one that you have used and know is good and will fit an IRN properly. :)

I just want one to be able to take him on walks around my school's campus and also when we travel, I want him to be comfortable.

So. Any help is appreciated! Thanks guys!

Hey,

Good question! The best harness is the Aviator Bird Harness. It's really wonderful as you don't have to clip anything on and scare the bird to death. I am currently working with Archimedes through positive reinforcement to get him to wear it. It's important you don't rush and put the harness on the bird as it will make the experience very frightening. I have been working with Archimedes for almost six months--still he is not quite comfortable with it.

Rushing to put the harness on is very unnatural for them and can simulate being caught--the bird then panics and will scream and will associate it as something very scary. Gradually introduce the harness to your bird and reward. Then work your way around his neck and reward just for that...once your confident he is okay with that, go further. Don't rush things and take baby steps! Eventually your bird will enjoy the experience and associate the harness as going out to play!

Best Wishes  ,

Thank you so much! That really does help! It's a good reminder to me that going slow is good! My husband and I are going to a bird fair in August, so I'm hoping I can pick one up there. If not, I'll order it! Through my research, the Aviator was what everyone else pointed out as best. :)

I'll remember to be patient! And if it's taking Archimedes that long to get use to it, I'll be sure to expect to be working with Yoshi for around a year. Thanks again!
