Another new member with a question!

Hello to you all from the hot Cyprus!

I am so lucky that I found such a perfect web site for IndianRingNecks so that we will be able to share our problems and exchange views from owners with more experience and knowledge.

I have an IndianRingNeck, nearly 14 months old. I got him when he was 3.5 months old. I specially wanted to have a male. The seller checked the bottom area of the bird and confirmed that he is male. I still have a little doubt as his neck is not that dark as the adult males we see! Perhaps he is still young?

Anyway his name is Charlie. He is really the part of the family. He knows everyone in the family and he is learning many things every day.

It's been 2 weeks now I am having a serious problem. Whenever I want to take him from his cage he bites my finger. He wasn't like this before. He was easily coming to my finger. Is it because I didn't show the necessary attention to him? Is he at a kind of puberty stage?? He gets moody! But when he is out of the cage he comes easily on my finger without biting! What can I do for this attitude?

Last point, his wings were trimmed when I got him. Naturally they are grown up now and he started to fly. I fear that he will escape one day if he finds a way! Do I need to trim his wings? If yes please advice can one person hold the bird and trim the wings at the same time? I have a fear that he will bite me!

Hi. I think the cage guarding is normal and a bit of bluffing too, my boy indie does it and he is very tame, sometimes when we walk past his cage he lunges and bites the cage trying to get us. The trick is to act like it doesnt bother you,they bluff by trying to get you to back off and be scared of them, if you do back off he/she won and will keep doing it, if you stand up to it they eventually knock it off (depends how stubborn they are). I dont think looking down the region you described is an acurate way to sex a ringie, they generally get a ring around 2 to 3yrs. Goodluck with charlie, he will come back to the loveable character after he has finished with his teenager stuff.
