My name its Rudy i'm new to keeping birds and i hope to learn how to keep this beutiful bird call indian ringneck. I purchase a breeding couple from a breeder last october i took them home and they look to be very happy, in february they lay 4 eggs and only two hatch, but they didn't survive they died with in a week, but the worse happen last friday the female kill the male, i'm so sad i don't know the reazon, the female its a lutino and the male was a silver with a red ring and lite yellow under his wings. I have two questions did i did anything wrong and the silver its a rare colour? thank you

Hi Rudy sorry about your loss.

Some times not all eggs get fertilized and some times the chicks just cant get out of the egg.
You would need to check the eggs under a light to see if the where fertile or not.

If they died within a week it is possible the female didnt feed them, she may not be a good feeder or you may not have had the right foods in the cage for her to give the babies.

If she killed the male it does happen females are aggressive and if the male doesnt have enough room to get away she will usually end up killing him. It is a bit odd though as they had paired up already.

Silver is not a rare mutation it is a grey cinnimon (silver)

Thanks Glenn
