hand Taming question,

Post by Sash4 »

Hi guys, we are new to ringnecks and we bought two about 3 weeks ago, they are approx 6 months old, the guy we bought them from never gave them much attention , (if any) and he told us this, as his cockatoo hated them so they were put outside in basically a shed alone,,,

They are now used to us and there surroundings, and can handfeed them through the bars, and occasionally inside the cage, we now want to go a step further and try handtaming, Now here is the bit, we are a bit nervous of doing it as they want to lunge at us,

Is there a way to get the handtaming process done without getting mauled lol??

we do have other birds (cockatiels) that were petshop bought and got them extremely tame in a month, they like nothing better than to sit just under your neck to get warmth and petted,

I assume they isnt an easy way, and just have to let them bite until they realise its not so bad,,

Love to hear about how you guys tamed down a ringneck that wasnt to friendly in the beginning, so we can understand more of these birds,
Getting info off the net is good , but it doesnt seem like real life, as they make it sound SOOOO easy..

P,s they will dance on command from us inside the cage lol, which is really good..
