Baby keeps on attacking us when we put our hands near her..

Post by Hermionestwin »

Hi,
my 74 day old baby IRN, keeps on biting us whenever we put her hands near her when she is on her stand so we can practise step ups etc....and she actual runs at us to bite us...is this part of the bluffing stage? we dont make a fuss when she bites, we just leave our hands there and ignore what shs doing...but its gettting more agressive now and she is breaking skin....HELP!!

Eeep just saw this one!

To prevent injury, you might consider using a T-stand to practice your step-ups, that way you don't have to stop.

Personally, I would ignore Hane when he bluffed. Just turn around and ignore him and go about my business and not even look or speak to him. Sure, he was lunging at me but he really did want attention!

That could backfire though if she's actually saying "GET AWAY!" Then you are giving her what she wants.

Now, birds are not dogs so sometimes you have to learn there are times when they are allowed to say 'get away' and you let them be. See if this is a thing she does all the time or just around certain foods, tv is on, something like that. Hane HATED the colour red- he's better about it now. If she's doing it all the time, I would use a T-stand to work with her for now.

I hope that helps a little.

I've been called 'birdbrained' before, but somehow I don't think this is what they meant. say:hah-nay

it just seems she dislikes us.... if we our hands near her she runs at us and attacks us, it is getting worse with each day, yesturday my mum had put her in her cage while we were all out for like 2 hrs or so left the radio on and had her with toys, and when mum went to get her out all she did is attack her, and mum left her for a bit to see if she would get out herself but nothing happened til after i came home and she had tried to fly out and landed on the floor and walk out to us...we try to distract her with food or toys while we try to get her to step up, she isnt intereseted with the toys, more interested with attacking our hands....we are really desperate for help :(
my previous one she never had this probelm...........i know all birds are different but its just frustrating....
