welcome zap
& may i just say how lucky you were to be chosen by an indian ringeck
judging by the photo your beautiful baby is still very young
he looks like my skeet did at about 5/6 weeks old
you will need to get a bigger cage when your bub is full size (which happens very quickly he wont be able to turn around in this one plus if you need to leave him in it for a whole day he will be very cramped & bored i have loads of toys to entertainment for my guys
he will also love a wide range of fruit vegies & seeds there is a wonderful post in diet & housing about the safe foods to feed them
i cant tell you what to name him but it will come to you soon
just keep in mind at this age without dna sexing there is no way of saying if hes male or female so try to choose a name that will suit both
good luck with your bub & keep us posted

Hi ringzap,

Congrats on your new baby ringneck. :)

Looking at the photo you posted, your ringie should still be eating baby chick formula. He shouldn't be weaned yet. Chicks should look like smaller version of adult birds with all their feathers in full before they are weaned.

If you do a search on this forum, you should be able to find information on feeding your baby and photos of what a weaned chick should look like.

Is he eating much seed? You could try offering a small amount of pureed fruit and veg like apple, pear, peas, corn, broccoli, cooked carrot etc. Just make sure you remove the seeds from the apple and don't feed advocado, chocolate or onion to him. Will make him sick and could die.
Maybe a jar of baby food for humans, he might like it. You will need to warm it up but not too hot or it could burn his crop, too cold and he will refuse it. There should be information on feeding tempratures somewhere on the forum. I don't have time or I would have a look for you. :)

That cage is too small for him, especially when he gets older.
I hope the poor little fella didn't hurt himself when he fell on the floor. :?

Good luck with the little one and let us know how things go with him.

Don't be afraid to ask any questions, even if you think they are silly. Might just be the difference between saving the chick from a nasty ending. :)
