What does it Mean?

What does it mean when parrots (not sure if it’s just IRN’s or all parrots) look at something pinning there eyes and there head goes from front to back kind of pecking at something? It’s SO hard to describe what I mean. They do this fast then slow and there body goes threw the motions as well. Looks BIZZAR.

Skye does the same thing when I grab one of his favorite foot toys.

does he spread his wings out a little so they apear kind of heart shaped too? coz that sounds abit like the male mating dance

yep sounds like mating dance to me. The eyes are a little creepier than normal pinning though.

Oh it does not seem like she is in a nasty mood when she does this. But I will keep my hands away, LOL.

EXACTLY Bec, that is it!!! Her wings are spread out. You mean my female is a male? She is a year old with no sign of a ring. They eyes TOTALLY pin. I had a male Rascal who did this all the time. And her whole body kind of moves back and forth.

So do ONLY males do this? Not females?

Females might do it, but i thought it was the males dance..
So then why are Ring necks not proven sex until 3 years.

I guess females have a possibility to, yet again the males do it
alot more?.

ive been told the girls can do the dance as juveniles
the reason they say irns arnt proven till three is if they dont have a ring by three then they are female
riku is 2 in october but has hes ring so is definitly a male but some males can be late bloomers with the ring
i myself have never seen a female do the dance but stranger things have happened

Well I guess only time will tell. But there is absolutely NO sign of a ring. Do they are least have a sign of a ring at 1 year old?

riku had absolutly no sign of a ring till he was about 18 months and the first sign was one black feather

Wow, thanks. I would have thought sooner so you are probably right, my baby is probably boy. Her behavior is very similar to one of my male ringnecks that passed away.

It would be interesting to see a ring come in. But it would so so strange thinking of my little girl being a boy.

It will be so strange if she turned into a he. I don't think I can ever think of her as a he. SHE is my little baby girl. I have always thought of her that way. But what can you do.

Oh you know what. The breeder said if Chiquita is a male he wants her back and will pay much more to get her back so she can be a breeder. Ya, right, I new from the start I would NEVER be able to give her back. No matter what price which was a lot. But there is no chance that will happen. I just couldn’t do it, I love her/him too much.

I would say boy too

Indie my lutino didn't get his ring till really late, we were told SHE was over 3 yrs old when we got him, we had him for over 12 months when I noticed a red dot on the back of his head and now he has a beautiful red and white ring. Your boy doesn't look like a normal lutino to me , he may get a different coloured ring.

Wow, that is a long time to develop a ring! It would be interesting to see a different colour ring.

You think she is not the standard lutino? Interesting. I will have to do a search and see.

Ya, see she is at the window now doing that mating dance, wings open like a heart and body rocking back and forth, especially the neck with eye pinning. I think I have to agree, she is looking more and more like a he. What a name for a boy, Chiquita Banana, LOL.

She licks my windows, there always so snotty looking.

Courtney, funny thing is you don't have second ring neck so its proof that s/he did not learn it from a male..

Your right, she couldn’t have learnt that from a male for sure. That would be impossible. The more I think and compare it to my other IRN Rascal who passed away the more I notice male behavior patterns like Rascal.

My IRN is 9 months and does the male mating dance-especially when im holding a pen. Jasper is female by DNA testing, the breeder thought she was male also (although i know guessing isnt accurate).
My IRN before her (who actually died at 1.5yrs, sadly) also did this, and was also female by DNA

How did your old ring neck die at age 1.5 years old?

My flatmate brought a rat. I was always very careful but once she let it out without telling me and my door was open and it broke my birds neck. I heard my birdy screaming and i ran in but it was too late. I was depressed for a very long time
