hello from texas

Post by lkings99 »

Hello,

I'm new to IRNs and well new to birds also... Let me start. I was looking fot an African Grey as a pet, so I got a big cage and everything ready for it. But, when I went to look a t it I say a pair of IRNs and decided to get them. Anyway, thinking it was better to start with a smaller bird. The lady told me they were 9 months old.... little did I know they are not, the male has the black ring and the female a ligther ring, textbook style. This told me that she did not know anything about them, I liked and took them home... They came in a medium cage, in my opinion good for one but not for both. I placed them on a big cage but I have a hard time getting them out, they climb up the way to the top and I cant reach them, I guess is more traumatic to force them out to try to tame them.. They bite hard, I guess never interacted with humans. So I placed them in different cages, the smaller on for the male and other for female. This way I can have easy acces to the male and less dramatic to get him out... now should I keep them apart to try to tame them of together... should i get a nest box or what do i do... thanks for your help... will post pix soon...

One Ring neck has a full grown ring, Then she said they
were 9 months old :? ? I don't have much to say for advice
except keep them separated for a long time, While that is
in place..Interact with them to get them tame 8) .

Thanks for the note... I put them back together because the male stater plucking form the chest, he had no interes on toys, he would just flip and flip inside the cage so I decided to put them back togehter... I hope i can make progress with them... Also, I met whith the lady that sold them to me and she stated that they are not IRN that are african ringnecks. Looking at them they look like IRNs, what are the different things about IRN or ARN... Thanks...

Hi Ikings99 and welcome. :)

Indian Ringnecks are a bit larger than in size than African Ringies. Also Africans seem to have a different coloured beak, being more deeper red than the Indians bright red beak. :)
