I need some advice

Post by ange »

Hi everyone,
3 weeks ago, i found a lorikeet, on the side of the road, i took it home, and it was ok after a week, so we decided to buy an irn, about 6 months old (so we were told) 1 week later, my baby died :( my irn was pretty distressed, we baught another irn, about 3 months old, but my new one keeps biting my old 1. 1 of them is blue and the other is green, do different colored irn get along? I have also noticed that my green one, that attacks, is losing feathers. can this be a contributing factor?
I have so many other questions, but this is my first one...lol
I hope someone can help me...
Thank you

I am not that knowlegdable as i am still a learner but from my readings in the hisitory of the posts i have found that birds are like humans - some birds like all other birds others do not . soemtimes it takes time for them to get used to each other and like one another - but there may be a chance it wont happen.

i guess you need to give it time - the newest IRN might need time - have them close to each other form what i gather so they can see each other and talk to each other but not close enough to touch - any time together needs to be supervised until you are sure they are ok - it is all about time - the older IRn hopefully will be ok with jsut having another bird close by.

good luck - i trust soem one more experienced can help you out as i said i am going by what i have been told here myself and from reading older posts.

I'm guessing that by the time frame that you found the Lorrie and got the irn that you didn't quarantine the birds properly and lorrikeets can be carriers of diseases that they do not always show signs of. I would get the bird that is loosing feathers to an avian vet and get it checked out straight away, it could be molting but considering the wild Lorrie dying and not being quarantined I would get to a vet.

I agree with Julie. Although i think BOTH the IRNs should be getting checked out. If the first IRN got something off the Lorikeet then it would have definately passed it on to the newer IRN by now. You really need to research before you buy a bird. Your newer IRN should have been quarantined for atleast 6weeks away from your older one. And the older one shouldn't have been put with the Lorikeet so quick either. Saves peoples time, money, and the birds welfare if you do the research
