so I feel bad for not posting a long time and coming in with a sad update. Unfortunately about a week ago our Conure passed away. Its probably a little less sad knowing he was very very old past his 30's I believe (can't remember the exact number anymore). We aren't sure exactly what happened, my sister just came in one morning and he was already gone. We are thinking that old age just finally caught up with him as he hadnt been acting odd (well worse than he normally did anyways.) I think at least it was nice that for the last months of his life, he got to be in a big cage with all the good food he could eat (I am not sure if I ever mentioned this before but his and Sugar plums prior owner only fed them chicken scrap and sunflower seeds).

On a better note, my mom has taken to sugarplum more than anyone else which is awesome since she, and I quote "Hates birds". She pulls her out of the cage at night and has her setting on her arm while she surfs craigslist. Sugarplum soaks it up and chatters away the whole time. I think thats a big victory for birdkind :D

My bird is going through the brat stage, keeps trying to bite and be a rebel, but we are working on it. Everynight I work on her while she is in the cage (putting my hands along the cage because somewhere along the way she started striking at hands near her cage). So whenever she bites at the hand I blow and she stops, takes 1-3 tries before she stops completely and when she does she gets a peanut (her favorite). Same with when she is out of the cage, though she is much less aggressive when out of the cage, she rarely bites when she is allowed to roam around. I think its got something to do with the cage being "her home" and so she feels the need to try and bite someone who touches or possibly invades it and seeing as my sister has sometimes resorted to methods that I am rather furious about to get her to come out of the cage, I cant say I blame the bird exactly... For the record my sister isnt exactly being overly mean or intentionally trying to hurt the bird. BUt she just gets this urge to pull her out and so she puts on the leather gloves I had for dracula (since we couldnt cut his nails completely due to arthritis) and will reach in and grab her and pull her out which is probably really frightening for Zee

Hey Zero,

Wow, I am really sorry for your loss  . It’s so sad to hear you conure died! But as you said it, at least he did enjoy the last half of his life and he did reach his 30s—that’s really good!

Sounds like you are on your way to taming a wonderful and healthy ringneck. I commend you for being so patient as ringnecks are not the easiest parrots to work with. You are doing a wonderful job—hang in there! Really enjoyed reading your progress  !

Best wishes  ,

Imran
