Could A Ringneck Be Housed With Cockatiels?
I have one single lutino male and he seems so lonely and I am getting two Cinamin Cockateils that are a proven pair.
Would there be any harm to my ringneck if I tried to house them together?

Loretta,
Here's the thing. It might be a problem and it might not, you really wouldn't know until you housed them together. You should first see how the birds interact with each other. If you are confident that they are getting along and not fighting or causing ANY harm to each other then I don't see the harm in it. However, there are many people who would tell you that it is a bad idea. IRN's can be very aggressive at times and you have to ask yourself if you want to take that chance of any of your birds getting injured if they do have conflict. Like I said if you feel it is okay then try it! Most animals enjoy interaction with others...even IRN's! And conflict if any usually results in one backing down/running from the other so you decide. Good Luck! Let me know how it goes. Hope this helps some.

Hi Loretta,
I have a cockatiel when I got my IRN about 2 months ago. The birds do fight with my cockatiel backing out at the end. However, at other times, they also enjoy each other's company. My cockatiel is always asking my IRN to preen it. Sometimes, my IRN snaps at it when it is not in the mood to preen him, and my cockatiel will walk away and come back ago after a while. But at other times, he will happily preen my cockatiel.
So far, I am still uncomfortable in housing them together because you do not know how bad the fighting will get especially in a small confined space. The cockatiel may not have enough space to get away from the IRN. So far, they are housed in separate cages and only get together when we are at home and under supervision.
So, I agree with Misty's advice and would suggest that you be prepared to house them separately.
Regards
Doremon

IRN & cockatiels
I have 4 cockatiels and 1 IRN (until recently - he moved to a new home) but I didn't house them together. I don't suggest it as a good idea simply because the IRN is a bigger bird that the cockatiel and if they were to get into a serious squabble the cockatiel could get injuried severely. As a matter of fact, I have a cockatiel that I adopted from a friend who also had a yellow-fronted amazon. The cockatiel loved the amazon but the amazon was not too crazy about the cockatiel. One day, the cockatiel got too pesky for the amazon so the larger bird (the amazon) bit the cockatiels toe off! This is the reason that my friend had to find the cockatiel a new home, because despite his injury he kept trying to be with the other bird!
Also, if your cockatiels are a proven pair the IRN may be a source of anxiety for them when they have little ones in their nest.
But, all the news is not bad. There is no reason why you can't let your birds visit and play together regularly as long as they are being supervised by you. My IRN and my cockatiels did just that on numerous occasions and seemed to be very happy for the interaction. They would even sing and chirp to one another early in the morning and at night when getting ready to roost for the night. I had my cockatiels and my IRN in the same room for a very long time so that even when they weren't physically together they could see and communicate with each other.

tzigane, do you still have your IRN?

We don't keep Kiki with our budgies and cockatiel as she would harm them seriously. Kiki attacks our cockatiel and would severely injure our budgies. We actually sometimes put Kiki in the budgie cage "under supervision" but don't let the Cockatiel or budgies come close to Kiki. Don't take risks. Indian Ringnecks are large birds and can severely injure small birds such as Cockatiels and budgies.

Thanks For The Advice Everyone
Thank you all for wonderful advice. I have since gave in to my love and opened an aviary next to my home. While I have cockatiels, lovebirds, parakeets, nanday conures, beautiful white doves, and a gold cap conure, I still hold a special place in my heart for Duke, our precious Lutino IRN and better news. Duke now has a wife named Katie. She is absolutely beautiful. A lil mean at times but so beautiful.
Thanks again,
Loretta

Yesterday I put Kiki with our budgies and Cockatiel, she was fine with them. Our aviary is 2mt by 3mt (est.). I wouldn't cage them together in a small cage though. The only problem is, our cockatiel is in love with Kiki just because she's yellow. He was originally in love with Cocky, our yellow budgie but then switches to Kiki whenever he sees her. He started attacking our budgies!
to Indian Ringneck:
Sorry for the delay in answering your question: my Internet connections was down a while, but I'm back online now!
No I no longer have my IRN but a friend of ours does. I'm happy to say that he is very happy in his new home and the two of them seem totally cut out for one another!
