has anyone heard of a blue split albino

Post by Jodie »

Has anyone heard of a blue split albino? I have been talking with a seller who claims to have a blue split albino. I have looked through my genetic charts and have not seen such a combination. The seller states she purchased the bird from another person and does not know the parents colors. I am just wondering if she is miss informed or is there such a color mutation? Thanks for your help!

Jodie,

I'm not sure about all the mutations but the information that I do read on it says that the mutations are almost ENDLESS and that there are new mutations emerging every so often. Also some people do not report new mutations because they like to keep it to themselves for control or money purposes and the avian society has little to no information on them so it is possible that the mutation exists.

 BUT, I think if you are seriously interested in purchasing this bird then I would consult an avian specialist they may have information IF there is any on such a mutation. If not you are taking a chance and uncommon mutations are EXTREEMELY expensive as I'm sure you've seen. Hope this helps!

Thanks for your input, I figure it is just a blue male. The seller might be saying it is split to albino because it is paired/bonded with a lutino hen or perhaps they meant to say lutino. A blue bred to a lutino would produce green split babies. Which is kinda a loss for the color mutations. I don't mean to sound like I am against green, I am sure they will be great green babies! I was just wondering if anyone has heard of such a mutation. Thanks for your help!
