No Idea... Help wanted!!

Post by KellieH »

Hey guys just a quick question, I noticed on Fonzies leg the other day a small sore, I wasnt an open wound, and the skin was kind of peeling away from around it. I could tell it was bothering him and to me it was swollen.. I took him to the vet and he was given his first needle (anti-inflammatory)

she said that he would have more than likely passed by something and also sprained his ankle, somehow!! He did get tangled up in some frayings of a ribbon the other week and seemes quite distressed but i never noticed any blood anywhere.. So she sent us home with strong advice for rest and a good diet. And said guaranteed it would be better in a week and she'd be surprised if it hadnt.

Now, a few days on, it looks like it is getting worse and I know it is still bothering him because he is shaking his leg every few secconds.. Thumping it like a rabbit.. I have caught him picking at it and I know when i have a sore and its healing it gets itchy so maybe thats why!!

I know i'll be taking him back but just wanted to know if any of you had ever noticed anything like this on your birds??

He's still a happy little camper and is now exploring the wide world of my house, but I hate to think that he's in pain or anything..

I know i said a 'QUICK' question, sorry..

I have to agree with Amazonite. Usually things like sores don't get worse before they get better. If he not putting any weight and if there is any worsening discoloration, if it were me I'd make a trip ASAP back to the vet.... If it is because he is biting at the sore to make it worse, they might be able to make him a little birdie cone around his neck (like a dog collar dogs get not to bite at their wounds which you see more commonly). That's what they had to do for my cockatiel when he had his leg removed to allow it to heal and keep him from getting it infected and chewing at it.

if they put a cone on... can we see a picture? ive never seen a bird with a cone. i was gunna suggest that maybe a cone or something would stop him picking at it. its like picking a scab and making it bleed all the times isnt it, takes twice as long to fix and usually gets infected, especially with a birdy mouth around it.

a cone would be too funny though i think :)
