Teil?

Post by Mikaela »

Does anyone have a Teil around 3 months old they can post a pic of?

I am considering adopting one, tell me about them. Are they loud, first of all? And are they ALOT more loving than Irns, secondly?

helloo! hehe ive had in my life about 5 teils at all diffrent times! ok personally i love IRN way more! sorry all you tiel lovers! they are loving but not that inteligent but i think if you spend enough time with them and teach them tricks they could be.

they are very noisy!!!!!! and have a high pitched sceam!

ummm roughly you can get them from AU $25 to $100 depending so there pretty cheap.... males can be good talkers.

they are cute thou.... hope that helps

I have to agree, I love my IRN's simply because they are so smart.

However, we do have teils, one of whom is my baby. He has a special whistle he does just for me, and I can kiss him and scritch him and love him anytime. I don't think that makes him more friendly though, as I can do the same things with my IRN's.

Male teils tend to sing a lot, females don't usually. Females are usually sweeter, but it doesn't always hold true. They do get lonely if not getting enough human interaction and unlike the IRN's they will revert to wild pretty easily without hands on time.

Are you considering a teil because your having trouble bonding with your IRN? If so I have to tell you that once you have bonded with them, its nearly unbreakable. The amount of love they give back is amazing, it just takes time.

No problems bonding here. Actually, my birds and I are the excentric ones here with the kissy love thing going on.

If you look in the photo forum there are tons of pics of my girls and I interacting and I have been able to teach many here how to reach some level of hands-on tamness.

That is my 6 month old. Here is my 2 yr old.

I am considering a tiel because I know they are great 'first time' birds and I need a bird my kids can interact with. Of course my girls only allow me to hold them. The tiel is more for them plus, I have a little more love to give.

I am a bird addict :?

I dont remember learning through all of my research this could actually become an addiction!

I just need to make sure these birds are actually more affectionate. Birds kids can handle. They so desperately want to hold the other girls. This teil is 3 months old, hand raised. It is the from the breeder I got Baby from.

Thank you for your help.

I wish someone had told me about the dust factor when it came to tiels. Killer is the dustiest bird I own. Tiels, like toos, have down that disintegrates into a fine powder that floats through the air and covers everythig. Killer's cage was next to my dresser and every morning when I cleaned his cage I would have to dust. not to mention all that dust from him that was attacted to my comp. He got baths but it's just natural for them to loose this white dust, lol.

Males will scream, females are usually quieter.

Personally, tiels are boring compared to IRNs. They just sit there and whistle at you. They don't play like IRNs do, besides attacking some toys. They don't seem to be as adventurous either. And I've never seen Killer handing with his feet on two different toys trying to figure out how to get out of that position, lol.

But they can be so cuddly and sweet. And when raised from youth LOVE cheek scratches.

So they're not all bad, lol. But the dust is something I really wish I had known about. Killer had to be banished to the porch because mother was allergic to his dust. :(

I've been called 'birdbrained' before, but somehow I don't think this is what they meant. say:hah-nay

im addicted to birds too always have, all my friends think im a loser cause i love em  but i dont care! my best friend is so scared of birds and hates bella, i dont see how she could hate a face like that thou!

i love my baby

Then its settled. I'll get the kids a tiel and that will be 'their' bird which inturn means 'their' dust but I'll leave that part out hehe.

Thanks so much for all of your help ya'll. I thought a tiel would be a good choices and it seems as though yall agree.

Im not leaving for a few more hours (not up to par today) so if anyone else wants to put in their two cents, please!

I am at a loss to find one bad thing about them and have searched high and low. I didnt have much trouble learning of the terror an Irn was going to bring, unfortunately BAD is about all the info on Irn's I could find until I found this place.

As Belle said... ALL the boys around here are TOO AFRAID of a baby bird to try to bond... rediculous! And these are the same 5 boys that are suppose to kill attackers and take care of me when Im old? Iiiiee, I need better insurance.

So I dont get ripped, what is the max I should pay for a three month old hand-raised girl?

Tiels come in alot of colours. http://www.adelaidebirdclub.com/abccockatiel.html there is only a few pics but when people send in more i will update.

I loved my cockatiel he was very affectionate and would sleep on me, I could throw him and he'd fly back, he started to talk but I never kept him that long.
He was an awesome pet.

I have 5 cockatiels, one is laying eggs on the floor !!
