Hello all, I was wondering if males or females talk better. I think my Bobby has turned out to be a girl, almost a year old, but not talking as yet. She makes all sorts or throaty noises, but has not actually spoken.
We have been hanging the cage out in a tree these lovely spring days here in New Zealand, we open her door, and she just loves climbing the tree and whistles at us, she has her wings clipped so cannot fly away.
Maybe someone may know if males or females talk better. thanks.

Does it matter which talks better? That's like saying which sex is friendlier, or more outgoing or any personality trait.
It's up to the individual bird as to if or when it wants to talk. My female sun conure says a few words, I didnt encourage her or train her. My Male indian Ringneck doesnt talk, maybe he's too young, maybe he never will.
It doesnt worry me if they talk or not they communicate just fine with bodylanguage. I love them just the same.

Keeping them as natural as possible isnt a bad thing. In my opinion, I think it is a great thing. The words my girls have learned were by mere accident. I dont discourage or encourage mimicing. It only reinforces the idea that birds are actually stupid, mindless mimics. They dont fly around landing on branches asking the flock 'whats up?' 'Polly wants a cracker".
Birds that mimic are cute, of course but it certainly wouldnt mean ANYTHING to me if my girls never said a word. Boo has about a 20 word vocab. Baby says Hey Baby but thats all. Thats how I greet her. She is still a baby.
