Bluffing?

Post by XaienZorian »

Hello, i have a 7 month old, indian ringneck. he/she wasn't hand fed by the breeder and tends to bite rather aggressively, i was wondering if you would consider this to be part of the bluffing or if he is just rather untame and still needs some working with. When he/she can't see the cage the biting doesn't seem as much like one or two pecks in an hour but when the cage is insite its like i'm a chew toy, broke skin a few times already. Any Suggestions i usually just ignore the bitting or stick the bird back on the top of his cage.

Sounds like your doing the right thing by just ignoring the bite. Keep this up, it will take some time, patience and a little persistence to get him/her through this behaviour. Either ignore it completely like it never happened and it didn't affect you whatsoever or you could turn your back and walk away as soon as he/she does it. No yelling, no spoken words, no reaction, just walk away. But remember this might be what your bird wants. So try to see why your bird is biting you. I will usually do this with my older bird because hes tame and I know he loves my attention and he hates it when he doesnt get it. But with younger untame birds, its best to keep handling them no matter how much they bite. Keep it up, you'll get there!
