Breeding for next year. Problems

Post by shemy »

Hello guys,

Had my IRNs for around 3 years now, the pair are both 4 and 5 next year.

In the last two years the pair have breed but no hatches.

We had around 4 eggs last year, not as many this year!!! We found one on the avairy floor. That made us think.

Can anyone help me here? Why my IRN pair has not hatched any eggs.

I don't want this to happen next year!!!

Also, I am creating a new avairy for the back garden at my Dads house, making a few cages for different birds. I should wait until after my IRN have breed first and the babies are fine and moving etc before moving them in to a new avairy.

Thank you,

Shemy.

Could be your two are not compatible with each other. Just because your hen is laying eggs does not mean they have mated. The male does have to fertilize them before they are laid (mating). If you have gotten clear eggs 2 years in a row it could be a number of things, diet, is real important for breeding and also your breeding pair may be related (clutch mates) Also you may be putting the nest box up to soon and the hen is busy working it and not giving the cock time to mate with her.

have you seen them breed?
is the nest appropriate and at suitable location?
are your birds calm, are there something to disturb or scare them?
and is their diet complete?
...just few thoughts about your problem
