Hey Ya'll:
My lil girl Baby doesnt do this. She digs everyone and isnt scared of a thing.
However, my oldest girl Boo, when scared or uncomfortable, does this sound that is EXACTLY like a car alarm. It is the REAL loud, hi-pitched two sqwack sound.
Is this sound common to all ringnecks, as Baby doesnt do this either yet or because she is too cocky. Grrr, she gets on my nerves with that, whats she got to be scared of, she does it for IMMEDIATE attention so I have began ignoring her and simply glancing over to make sure a monster isnt after her. I have to find this girl a support group. Her nerves are all da pieces.

Car alarm...

Poor Boo!
Awww. Sounds like you've got a nervous wreck on your hands! My Prinny is like Baby she hasn't done the cantact call thing yet and I am hoping she doesn't. However they are still young...so you never know
Maybe they unlock something in their brains when they age...

Its an alarm call, and totally natural. Some birds choose not to use it, but all are capable of it.
Mazzie's is so loud that it can make you wish you were deaf. I've had the corpses from the cemetery walk to my house from a mile away to yell at me about her alarm call
.
Actually, when she used to do it often I started talking to her each time she did it. "Scream Scream!" "Whats wrong baby?" "Scream scream" "Really?"... and so on. Now she usually hushes after hearing me reply... its like she needs to know that I understand that she is alarmed.
