Im definately banding him because he is going to my sister, she had her blue irn knocked off by a lady who is known for stealing peoples animals. But because her previous irn didnt have a band she couldnt prove he was hers.

You could also consider microchipping. Here in FL if your animal is microchipped and you suspect someone of having your bird, by law you have the cops come out with a reader and scan the animal for you. I don't know about the law in your part of the world.

They put the microchip in the breast muscle of parrots.

A friend of mine had her little caique chipped. It wasn't such an ordeal, even though he's a little thing. I thought it would be much more traumatic than it was, lol.

Bird theft happens a lot here and bands can be cut off. I haven't chipped Hane yet, but he also hasn't been to a vet so that explains that. I should take him but I just can't right now. >.<

It's not mandatory here at all, only cats and dogs that go through the shelter systems get microchips automatically.

But it makes it easier to claim your bird if it ever is stolen. Or if it ends up at a vet and they scan for one then you'll get your pet back. Or in a shelter situation.

By the way, if you ever find a lost dog, cat, etc- vets scan them for free (here in FL) if you're trying to find the owners. At least, they should.

I spoke to the vet yesterday and he said it can be done , but it is normally only really expensive birds that have it done and you have to keep all the info, its not on a database like the dogs,cats and horses.
