More than two IRN in the same cage/aviary??

I just wonder, how do you keep your IRN´s?

I do have mine in pairs. I did once put in a male in an outdoor aviary with two others a male and female. It ended up in disaster. They killed the poor guy.

That misstake I will not do again!

But it would help a lot if I could keep some of them together. I wonder if you could recomend putting all males in one cage and all femals in another cage???

They will be able to see and here each other, will that be a problem?

Then just paring up the couple I would like to breed whith when the time comes??


The cages are 2 meters long 1 meter wide 2 meter high.

I do have 3 hens, 5 males and a youngster that I dont know the sex of yet.

What would You have done??

Best not to house more than one bird together unless you plan to have a huge avairy where they can escape the 'bullies'

Different people have different views though...some have housed more than one just fine...others, not so good...best not risk it though!

I would keep them separate for a while until you know how they interact with each other. Keep them separate but let them interact and 'get to know' one another from a safe distance. Even then, I'd be cautious when pairing them. Some may not be interested. Just like us humans don't always get along with everyone we meet. I've read that females can kill the male if they are 'not interested'.

I can make the cages bigger if it´s nessesery.

I Know that females can be real bitches some time, but is that also when they are not with a mate??

There must be someone here who has a lager amount of birds, do you all keep them just in pairs??

Of course I will keep an eye at them, my thougts were putting together maybe 3 calmer mals at first?!?

But It would be nice to here a little from you first.

I had six in the one aviary, I watched them pretty closely and ended up moving skye out (hen) and cheeky (juvenile c). Skye is very dominant and cheeky was getting chased by oscar(c). I dont know how you would go with established pairs though. How old are your cock birds and hens?

How big was your aviary, the one with six IRN´s in it?

How old they are... hmmm lets see...
one cock is round 7 years, same with one hen.

one cock and hen is probably something like that maybe a year older or two.

Than we have one cock 1,5 years old.

one cocks round 5 years one hen round 4 years

and last one little fellow just 1 year old and the sex unknown. This IRN is sitting with a cock age unknown minimum 5 but he looks old...

I will measure the first aviary an let you know, its big enough to put a couple of dividers in. What you may have to watch is the bonded pairs may gang up on the others. See mine are all young and at the time only oscar and skye had been in together, but skye was the main problem chasing the other hens.if I was in your position Im not sure if I would put them all in together .

But if I separete the male and female, I guess the risk is smaller because of the fact that the bonded pair are not together anymore.

I´m not sure of what to do, I may just let them be. Thats why I want to hear more from others here in this forum.
