Eating Poop

Post by Lauren »

Any ideas on how to stop Yoda from doing this? It started a few days ago and hes done it a few times already! :( I clean the cages thoroughly once a week and do my best following them around with a tissue everyday. Anyone else had this problem? Ideas? Poop can't be good for them!

Hmm, definately not something I want Yoda eating. I suppose I'll just have to clean more than once a week and hope Yoda grows out of it. :?

Also, Does anyone know of those bitter tasting feather picking sprays? I was supposed to get lice/mite spray but picked up a feather picking spray accidently a while ago. I never took it back to get exchanged. I was just thinking if I should just throw it out since we don't have a problem with feather picking. Its says 'Extremely bitter tasting spray to aid in the prevention of feather picking habits in pet birds.' Active Constituent - Denatonium Benzoate?

maybe try spraying that wherever he's eating the poopies from? if its bitter tasting then im sure it will deter him from eating that at least a little bit.... and you'll already know its safe for him to ingest because thats what its made for! ive never used it as ive never had a bird that pulled.... but i did use something similiar for my golden retriever when she was a puppy (she chewed on EVERYTHING including the walls!) and it certainly helped break her of chewing the "no-no" stuff

they use the stuff to deter ingestion of other poisions like rat poison

I wonder if it would really work, I mean these babies eat hot chillie peppers for cryin out loud  but then if its particularly designed for birds it would be diluted to a correct level and is probably worth a try.

Pistachio my Quaker will do this occasionally. Sometimes I think she does it because I get up off my duff and see what she is doing.

I'll be interested if the spray actually deters him.
