Flaking Beak

I am sure I saw a post about this the other day, but I cant seem to find it anywhere.

I was just wondering if it is unusual for a birds beak to kind of flake?
Is this part of molting? Because I saw a couple of pin feathers under Wasas neck earlier this week.

First time IRN owner so just a tad nervous about all the little teenager steps lol
