Hello New Here
Hello, I am glad to have found this site. I have 2 budgies and a fairly new addition whom is an Alexandrine Parakeet. I understand the Alexandrine are in the IRN family.

Alexandrines are in the genus Psittacula, which the ringnecks also belong to, the asian parrots. They are different species though.
Alexandrines chew A LOT, and have bigger beaks for it. Give them soft wood toys, they really need to chew. I understand they can be much like ringnecks in personality, ranging from cuddly to downright moody. The males grow a ring around two years of age. You can feed the same foods you would feed a ringneck, just more of it and in bigger sizes. ^_^
They need a pretty big cage, since they are active and have such a long tail.
Yeah... I um... looked into alexandrines a while ago, lol. ^_~

Yes he does get moody. Mostly he is real cuddly and friendly though. He was hand fed and given right to us at age 16 weeks.
He eats almost anything put in front of him. Loves his corn on the cob the best.
He was taken to an avian vet and in great health.
He has one of those very large cages, it is as big as a peice of furniture with a little area up top to hang out.
He is already mocking whistles and can almost say hello.
I would post a pic but I don't have the right stuff to do so yet.

Awesome. ^_^ I bet he's a beauty.
Great that he'll eat anything! He'll be healthy as long as you give a variety to fresh veggies and fruits.
And learning to imitate already. Be careful with the wolf-whistle, lol. My 'tiel loves to belt that out when I'm on the porch and people walk by. You should see the funny looks I get!

Hane loves pear too! At first he tasted it and dropped it. Next thing I know he has pear all over his beak and loves the grittiness of it, grinding it in his beak. Too cute. ^_^
