I personaly don't think its true. My IRN likes looking in his/her mirror and out the window. But the windows and mirror could be dangerous if your birds wings are not clipped, as they could fly into them and seriously hurt them selfs. If your bird has full flight (not clipped) I would cover windows and mirrors when they are out of the cage.

Jordan adores to sit at this window in the bird room and look out at the world, our back yard. He chatters away to everything. He is usually sitting there waiting when we drive in and he will call through the window, what are you doing ? hey baby, like a welcome home.

Jordan is very use to the house now so windows are not an issue for him flying into them, but I would be careful and have them covered with at least a sheer curtain if your bird is young or not use to flying around the house.

As for making them less tame, or them falling in love with the bird in the mirror, I personally think its hogwash. IRN's are smart enough to know the difference between a real bird and a reflection, maybe not at first glance but they soon learn what it is.

As for the windows making them want to be at the window other than with you, well, I think there is enough time and they have enough energy to want to be at the window and with you. Besides the window doesn't give kisses or treats

Just my humble opinions

I have heard this too but I don't agree. How boring would it be for them not to be able to look at the outside world or look into a mirror?
Jibs and Yodas favourite spot is hanging out on the window sill and talking to all the birdys outside. I live inbetween a creek and the bay, literally creek out the back and beach out the front so there is always plenty of different birds around for them to 'talk' to. Some even sit on our balcony on a nice day. We also have next doors cat come to the window and say hello too! I also live near the busiest airport in the southern hemisphere (small planes) and Jibs LOVES planes. He gets very excited when he sees one. hehe. As for making them less tame. I don't think so. My Jibs is so happy when I 'watch' too.
