Isnt 5 months a little young for...

Post by Mikaela »

Last week I noticed that my beautifully colored Baby was looking awful. Thought to myslef, giving her too many baths so it is making her feathers flat so I stopped bathing her. She is right at 5 months, 6 maybe.

Welp, the other day I got to really looking at her and in some places she has spins, pricklies in alot of spots, mostly on top of her head. Although she still looks pale and awful all over comparatively speaking to what she should look like.

Isnt she to young to be going through her first moult? If no, what do I expect, how ugly is she going to be and for how long... ew. Talk about bad hair day

My poor ugly baby

Hane was ugly for a month or so, lol. Until his molt was done he had pin feathers and little scraggly spots. But now he's all purty again. Though his tail and wing feathers haven't been replaced yet.

He was... 26 weeks when he finished his first molt.

I've been called 'birdbrained' before, but somehow I don't think this is what they meant. say:hah-nay

Yeah, saw that topic.

Well, reckon she is on schedule just didnt expect it so early. So do they usually grow in as pretty as before or sometimes, not so much?

Her color was once amazing... everyone commented on her color always.

Now... iiiieee, she looks... awful, no other way to put it... flat feathers, pale, spiny. A face only a mother could love. It came on quick tough, maybe she will go through it just as quick.

Her colour should improve actually. As long as you've been feeding her the good stuff. ^_^

Sometimes old feathers get dirty (Hane's tail is still dirty, lol, since it hasn't molted yet) and the new ones are clean. Some birds, like macaws look sooo much better after they've molted, because they only molt once a year and their feathers can get a bit messed up in that time.

Baby shouldn't lose any colour.
